Abstract

This paper reports on research exploring students’ attitudes towards alternative assessment with regards to certain advantages and disadvantages of such assessment at tertiary level. The focal part is an elaborate presentation of the students’ perceptions about self-assessment and peer-assessment, based on the results of a self-reporting questionnaire. The paper further discusses the introduction of non-indigenous educational approaches and the fact that this entails modification and adaptation of both approaches and the teaching practice to conform to the values of the students’ mentality.
