Abstract

In the present paper an introduction to the learners’ needs analysis within the context of TESOL is made as a crucial parameter in the curriculum and course planning. Firstly, the author is concerned with the needs approaches, the kinds of learners’ needs and the various types of analysis, according to the relevant literature. Secondly, the author attempts to put the theory into practice by designing a needs analysis questionnaire, which is addressed to students of Greek State Secondary Schools. In this case the knowledge of the backbone of the Greek State Curriculum is considered to be necessary since it consists of the framework within which the questionnaire is designed and the interpretation of its consequent results should be made.
