Abstract

Writing among pupils is encouraged when it is viewed as a recursive process. Pupils experience less pressure to get it right the first time and are more willing to experiment, explore, revise and edit.  This quasi experimental study investigates the effectiveness of Process Writing in teaching writing among Year Six pupils in Kelantan using two intact classes. Only the experimental group was taught using the Process Writing method. The research instruments include pre test, test2, test3 and post test tasks and a questionnaire to ascertain pupils’ motivation. Results of paired t-tests and independent samples t-tests show that the experimental group improved significantly compared to the control group. Process Writing Skills helped the pupils to minimise the errors made in writing such as spelling, subject verb agreement, and sentence structure and word choice. Pupils who have gone through the method also recorded an increase in their motivation towards writing.
