Error Analysis through Error Mapping*
The major research objective is to develop knowledge about the errors English language learners who are Greek native speakers make in order to form an error mapping that could enhance and consolidate English language teachers’ and students’ understanding of their mother tongue interference in English language acquisition.
The challenges of discovering how interlanguage features develop are considerable, and the problem is culturally and historically entrenched, but the payoff from success is also considerable, in terms of the acquisition of the knowledge that English language teachers may take advantage of and differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students.

The theme of the conference (LERC2023) is Language Variation and Educational Challenges: Didactics, Mathetics and Language assessment and is considered an apt topic at this time for a number of reasons. Firstly, the contribution of cultural values in teaching adds or should add to the different ways of using the language functions or other aspects of language. Secondly, studying language variation may guide language development activities. Thirdly, the need for the provision of adequate resources such as ESL/EFL textbooks to accommodate all the learners, reducing the teacher-learner ratio in the classrooms, organising capacity building workshops for ESL teachers, and changing the medium of instruction for all grades might be considered one of the most significant areas for discussion. Last but not least, lexico-grammatical deficiencies, lack of relevant content and knowledge about the topic pose a serious challenge for language assessment.
The call for proposals is now open.

The 5th International Conference on Language Education and Research will entail two full days of sessions on cutting edge issues related to Language Education and Research. There are also many opportunities for networking and socializing with our colleagues.
This year we intend to have a more interactional mode throughout the day so that the audience is given plenty of time to interact and share their context. The format is fluid to meet the expectations of the presenters and delegates. We welcome the formats as listed below:
Papers: 30 minutes (incl. a 10-minute discussion
Workshops: 45 minutes (incl. a 10 minute discussion)
Poster presentations
Paper submission deadline
The organising committee welcomes contributions from researchers, practitioners and teacher trainers.
Each speaker will have the opportunity to present one paper. Accepted presentations will also be considered for publication in the Journal of Applied Languages and Linguistics.

The four winners won the following books:
Aikaterini Vasileiou won The Cambridge Encyclopedia of the English Language which is written and recommended by Prof david Crystal.
Aggelos Evangelidis won The New A-Z of ELT which is written and recommended by Scott Thornbury.
Галия Гатиятуллина won the Grammatical Complexity in Academic English recommended by Prof Douglas Biber and written by Douglas Biber and Bethany Gray.
Flora Vlachou won the Cross -Curricular approaches to language education recommended by Dr Eleni Agathopoulou and edited by Prof Angeliki Psaltou-Joycey, Dr Eleni Agathopoulou and Prof Marina Mattheoudakis.

LERC2020 Moves to Virtual Conference

We continue to monitor the evolving factors related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, particularly with regard to our 2nd International Conference on Language Education and Research. The term “second wave” has no agreed-upon scientific definition. It can mean anything from localised spikes in infection to a full-blown national crisis, and some experts avoid it for this reason. Though, fear of a second wave of infections now hangs over countries that have managed to stamp out the disease. Due to such developments, it is likely that gatherings in conferences might be prohibited in autumn, which has contributed to our decision to move LERC2020 completely online on October 3rd and 4th, 2020. We made this decision in response to the many requests from our community asking that in the absence of a face to face event, that we hold an online event. We look forward to having you join us for this fully online event, and will be reaching out with complete details and the updated program shortly.
As we move LERC2020 completely online, we look forward to offering you the same vibrant programming, impactful networking, and opportunities to reflect and connect over the emerging and salient topics in our field. The virtual conference will include our regular offerings and opportunities for engagement, including sessions, workshops and poster presentations, keynotes, and space to connect with sponsors, exhibitors, and educators from across the globe. In addition to participating in the live event, all attendees will have access to on-demand recordings for one (1) year. Moving our face-to-face conference to a fully online format presents us with the unique opportunity to spotlight the best of what the online modality affords – meaningful collaboration and the ability to reflect and connect with colleagues around the world. We hope that you will join us for this reimagined event, and celebrate our collective resilience and dedication to forging connections without boundaries.
